Planning to burn sparklers at your wedding? You better read this first.

Governor Perry declared a State of Emergency for all 244 counties in Texas. How will this effect your wedding?

Because of the severe drought, the potential for wild fires is extremely high. The State of Emergency declaration includes language which bans the sale and use of ALL fireworks until further notice. SPARKLERS ARE CONSIDERED FIREWORKS!! If you elect to burn them at your wedding reception you can be fined $500 and charged with a Class C Misdemeanor. ...and if you were to actually start a fire, the consequences would be even more severe. Put simply, it's just not worth the risk. Use bubbles or long ribbons for your send-off.

Q&A with Boudoir Photographer Tiffany Tagle

Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with photographer Tiffany Tagle and discuss her specialty - one of the fastest growing trends and most desired gift by grooms everywhere - boudoir photography. In the following interview, you will find answers to a good deal of the questions you might be too shy to ask.

BRASS TACKS EVENTS: For those that are unfamiliar, define boudoir photography.
TIFFANY TAGLE: “Boudoir” is a French word for a woman's private dressing room or bedroom. Boudoir photography captures women in a sexy and classy style for their significant other or themselves. Many people have the misconception that these types of photos are only for young women or women who are smaller in size, but most of my clients are "normal" women. These gorgeous photos are perfect for the groom's gift, anniversaries, birthdays, Valentine's Day, soldiers overseas, weight loss, maternity, etc.

BTE: How many years of experience do you have as a photographer?
TT: Too many to admit (she laughs). Actually, I have been studying photography since I was about twelve years old and love it!

BTE: How long have you been shooting boudoir photos?
TT: I started shooting Boudoir in 2009 and have never looked back!

BTE: What would you tell the women who say, “I could never do that!"
TT: Well, first of all, every single client has said that! …which I think is so cute because they all say, "I could never look like that one girl on your website," but little do they know a few months before, the girl they are talking about said the exact same thing. So, I tell her "Obviously your honey thinks you are a sexy little number, or he wouldn't be with you, right? You don't have to be a Victoria’s Secret model. My gorgeous clients are all 'everyday' women, so you can do it!"

BTE: How long are the boudoir sessions?
TT: The sessions are 1 to 2 hours, depending on what package you choose.

BTE: Do you provide wardrobe or props?
TT: No, I think every woman has their own sexy style and likes to show that side of herself. They also get so excited to show me what they bought for the session. I would never come between a girl and her lingerie shopping spree! Props work the same way - they are specific to each girl and her honey. I tell my clients to bring something that is significant to their relationship. So, they may bring his work shirt, a football, his favorite jersey, his cowboy hat, his tie, the stuffed animal he gave her on their first date or even his motorcycle.

BTE: What sort of wardrobe options would you recommend?
TT: Wear what fits your personality. If you go splurge on lingerie you would normally not wear and aren't comfortable in, it will show in the photos. Trust me. Your outfits can be fuzzy pajamas, a cute bra and panty set, corset with garters, fishnet stockings, a babydoll teddy, boyshorts, tanktops, your honey's shirt or just his tie. I always say, bring it all and I can help you decide if you like.

BTE: Where do the sessions take place? Your studio? A hotel? At the women’s homes?
TT: All of the above. Wherever she feels most comfortable.

BTE: Can she bring a friend to the session with her for support and encouragement?
TT: She can, however, I wouldn't really recommend it. They aren't trying to be, but they can be a distraction.

BTE: Will you "photoshop" the little flaws?
TT: Yes, I specialize in flaws, small and large. My consultations include going through my retouched before and after photos.

BTE: Do you have books or samples that your clients can view for inspiration or ideas for poses?
TT: Yes

BTE: Do you shoot men too?
TT: I do, I am working on getting a male to shoot as an example. Stay tuned.

BTE: Would you shoot romantic photos of a man and woman together?
TT: Yes. …and we would talk through the specifics at my consultation.

BTE: Do you bring in special lighting equipment?
TT: Yes. If we are shooting anywhere other than my studio, I will bring everything needed to capture my signature look.

BTE: Do you provide hair and makeup?
TT: Yes. It comes with a couple packages or can be added on to the others. I have an amazing style team. Elizabeth is my hairstylist. She has been with me since the beginning and I'm lucky to have her. Every photo you see on my website or Facebook is her work. She works will all types of hair and will even work in extensions, if you have them. I also have three amazing makeup artists I have worked with for years.

BTE: Who retains the rights to the photos?
TT: Technically, I own all the rights to the photos. Having said that, I have and will always completely respect the decision of my clients to publish or not publish their photos. The women on my website, Facebook, blog, etc. have all given me permission to use their images.

BTE: Have you ever posed for a boudoir session?
TT: (She laughs) Ummmm, maybe! Okay, yes, I have. Just two weeks ago actually. I was telling my best friend that I was losing weight to do a session myself and then I thought...what a hypocrite! I am constantly telling women they are gorgeous the way they are and they don't have to be models and then I won't take mine until I am thin. So I decide to take them and be proud of them no matter what my size is! It was awesome, hilarious and I am so happy I did it. I can't wait to do it again. It's so funny, I hear my clients tell me all the time how their husbands look at their book of photos everyday and now my husband does too.

BTE: Tell me a story about a shy bride that really came out of her shell and surprised you.
TT: I had a client who asked me every question you just did and more! Seriously, she was so nervous. She brought a friend and a small bottle of champagne. While she was getting her hair and make-up done she was barely talking and sipping her champagne. I felt so bad because I could see how anxious she was. We started the photo shoot and then she stopped and asked if I had any liquor. I only had Crown Royal, of all things, and she didn't even flinch. She threw back a shot and said, “I’m ready!” We continued to shoot and she loosened up and we had a great session. Towards the end of our shoot she mentioned that this would be the first time her fiancé would ever see her like this. I asked what she meant and she told me they were saving themselves for the wedding night. I knew then why she had been so nervous. I was humbled and excited to be part of this very important stage of their lives. I'm proud of the art I create for my clients and when I hear their stories, it puts in perspective what these photos mean to their relationship. I am blessed to have the resources and creativity to provide these very special gifts to my clients and I can't imagine doing anything else.

Ways To Save When Planning Your Wedding

In all our years of planning, designing and coordinating weddings, never once has a bride come to us and said, "money is no object." It sounds great in the movies, but it never happens in real life. One of the biggest challenges that we face when working with a bride and helping her to establish a budget is combatting the images she sees on television in the wedding reality shows. A recent survey conducted by TheKnot.com found that the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is $27,800. Most of the weddings that you see on those TV shows cost well above $50,000.

So, if you want to have a beautiful day that looks like a $50,000 wedding but costs far less, here are some money saving tips:

RECEPTION

Cut the guest list. This will reduce your catering costs and save on invitations and even the number of centerpieces

Avoid "peak" wedding months: April, May, June and September, October, November

Hold your ceremony and reception in one location

Get married on a Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday

Have bigger tables so you need fewer centerpieces and tablecloths

Shop the off-season for extra decor -- buy twinkle lights the day after Christmas, get modern black vases on sale after Halloween and pretty pink ones after Valentine's Day

FOOD & DRINK

Serve beer, wine, and a signature cocktail instead of a full bar

Choose a venue that allows you to bring in your own alcohol rather than purchase from them - Their markup can be 200%-300%

Buffets are much less expensive than plated dinners

Skip the champagne toast - Hardly any of your guests will actually drink it anyway

FLOWERS

Use more greenery than flowers

Swap out costly flowers -- peonies can be five times more expensive than roses

Stick to just one or two kinds of flowers

Buy flowers that are in season

Include non-florals, like lanterns, candelabras, floating candles in water filled vases

Reuse ceremony flowers and bouquets for the cake table and centerpieces

CAKES

If you have 100 guests, you do not need 100 servings of cake - typically, only about half of your guests will actually eat cake

Order a small one or two-tiered cake and then supplement with a larger sheet cake hidden back in the kitchen

Skip exotic fillings like guava and mango

STATIONERY & FAVORS

Get single-page invites to save on postage

Give out one favor per couple

Have favors double as place cards

Email your save-the-dates

Make your own menu cards and place cards

PHOTO & MUSIC

If you know of a photographer that you want to hire but cannot quite afford, ask them if their second shooter is available for less

Skip the band, hire a DJ

Kate & Tyler

Kate and Tyler were married in October in Smithville, TX. The bride was gorgeous, the groom was dashing, and the bridal party was a super-fun bunch of their closest friends and family. Thanks to photographer Summer McWilliams for the images seen below. http://www.summersimages.com/

Photographer Jeff Loftin

It seems that nowadays anyone can go out and buy a fancy new digital camera and call themselves a wedding photographer. The reality is that a true professional has studied both the technical and artistic aspects of photography, has plenty of experience shooting weddings, and actually knows how to work those fancy digital cameras. I know that every bride is looking for the best value for their money, but I promise you that if you find a photographer on craigslist that is willing to shoot your entire wedding day - 8 hours - for $500, they are not a true professional. At best, they are a hobbyist. At worst, they are a crook.

When establishing the budget for your wedding there are some aspects where you can safely scale back your spending and other aspects where you simply should not. Don't spend a fortune on invitations or those silly jordan almonds that nobody ever eats. Take those extra dollars and put it into your photography budget. I assure you that 50 years from now, nobody will talk about the candy-coated nuts you put into little organza bags, but you and your future generations WILL be looking at your wedding album. I guarantee it!

So, taking all of that into consideration, I would like to introduce you to one of Austin's finest. If you are looking for a photographer that is a true professional, look no further than Jeff Loftin. In Jeff you will find a genuine artist and a pretty fantastic guy as well. In speaking with Jeff you will instantly get a sense of his passion for wedding photography.

I invite you to take a look at some of Jeff's work at his website and posted here below. Each photograph in his portfolio demonstrates his mastery of the craft. See it for yourself.

This is one of the first images I ever saw from Jeff's portfolio and I decided immediately that I had to get to know him and his work better. I think you could go so far to say that this is one of his "signature" photos.

I love this photo below. It belongs on the cover of a magazine.

Yet another stunning photo. Words cannot justly describe the grandeur of this image.

I adore the richness of the colors in this one. ...and there's something about the angle from which Jeff shot it. I really like the perspective.

These photos remind me of the grace and glamour of hollywood starlets in the 1930's and 1940's. Like something out of a Victor Fleming film.

I included these two images to demonstrate how a color image vs. a black and white can really effect the "mood" of a photo. I encourage all brides to have some black and white photos in their wedding albums.

Here's another photo of that same bride as above. I really like the use of the soft natural sunlight through the window, creating an effect akin to Rembrandt lighting.

...and a black and white photo with just a splash of color.

Now let's talk about the artistry of this photo below for a bit. First, by taking the color out of the image we are able to focus on the figurative "shape" of the image and the literal shapes within it. You have the geometic patterns of the windows and the tile floor as a backdrop for the roundness of the train on the bride's dress. Jeff has put the bride near the corner of the room and yet despite that purposely harsh angle she is still enveloped by the windows and the sunlight. Adding to the effect, Jeff has softened (or blurred) the focus of the outer portion of the image creating a sort of halo around the bride. This photo should be hanging in a museum.

Great use of lighting creating a very soft, angelic feel.

It's most likely rather obvious why I like these two below. The eyes tell the whole story.
...and sometimes a girl's just gotta have fun. Yeehaw!

For more info or to get in touch with Jeff, please visit his website - http://www.jeffloftinphotography.com/ - or find him on facebook.
...and be sure to tell him that Brass Tacks Events sent you!!
